Iowa State Fair Photography Salon
August 12th, 2009
A big congrats to all the exhibitors and winners in the 70th annual Iowa State Fair Photography Salon! A record 4577 photographs were submitted by 1493 photographers, with 875 photos and 608 photographers selected for display.
My results…
1 of 11 photographers to get all four photos accepted.
1st place People for the Scary-Go-Round. Jwen is soooo excited
2nd place Things & Still Life with Color Curl. Apparently “this close” to being picked Superintendent’s Choice
And these other two on display.
Be sure to stop by the Cultural Center if you’re at the fair, opening tomorrow! There are some amazing photos on display!
Awesome work! I love look at your pictures. So vibrate. Makes me feel like I am right there!
Bobbie
Your work is beautiful! You have such a awesome talent, I am proud to say that you are my cousin!
Colin keeps me up on your work but I have never had the chance to personally thank you for sharing your perspective through photography. You have a very good eye for so many things. I notice your technique at capturing patterns but the scary go round has a unique approach to patterns, portraits, motion and use of color. It is no surprise to see it chosen first. The still life has captured my attention and I spent a long time trying to imagine arranging the subject so perfectly. You must have a talent for patience as well.
Again, thanks for sharing and congratulations your work is very deserving!
Colin’s dad, Nick.
Thanks for the wonderful comments
Not cool to claim: “Apparently “this close” to being picked Superintendent’s Choice”
The photo selected as S Choice was clearly superior.
@London
No need to get offended… it’s all subjective & I’m just stating what I was told by the superintendent
Seems like you have an innappropriate relationship with a judge; that should be reported.
@London
So inappropriate that they *DIDN’T* win SC? You’d think that if there was an inappropriate relationship that they would have won it.
There exists people in life who have nothing to bring to the table and only serve to denigrate others and what they do. Ignore this person.
Colin, you protest rather a bit too much and a bit too loud.
Seems like both you suffer from a severe case of hubris.
@London
Actually… I can’t speak for Colin, but I personally find that a case is way too much to use before it goes bad. Half-pound baskets are a much more practical and cost-effective purchase for me. Or maybe I should just go with the case and find a few friends to split it with?
I think its funny that 2.5 months later, this is being commented on? Who cares! That girl won, congrats to her. London- what’s the point of your comments? o.O
My point was very clear — perhaps the education system failed you, Ami?
Ok, let me rephrase it for you, London, since you didn’t understand my question the first time. Why do you care what people think of these photos?
My concern is drawn from a questionable relationship and subsequent communication channels between a judge and contestant — which places other contestants at an unfair disadvantage. If not a clear violation of the contest rules, it certainly does not reflect the true ‘spirit’ of the competition.
Such an irrational overreaction…
This comment was made to me at the awards ceremony, in front of everybody else standing there at the podium. What harm was done in casually stating that he liked my photo enough he contemplated choosing it for his award? The photographers names aren’t displayed during the judging. There’s no questionable relationship. I don’t go out drinking with Charlie on the weekends. Sorry to destroy all your paranoid conspiracy theories.
Maybe your ego needs its own blog, too?
The funny part about all of this is, WHY DO YOU CARE??? Don’t like them? Don’t like their work? Easy solution! Quit looking at this site! It’s funny that you seem to be so passionate about this, & yet, there’s no reason for it! Move along, sweetie… Nothing more for you to see here
OMG. Colin is right; just ignore London. Doesn’t make any sense anyway! “Maybe your ego needs its own blog, too?” Where has the ego been? You haven’t said anything that isn’t true, and you haven’t been going on and on about how wonderful you are at this! That’s been other people AND YOUR AWARDS!!!
Good job, Ami! Such a sensible solution!! Cuz the world really doesn’t need more negativity, right?
i see the judging didn’t care if the photographs was photoshop or not. Because if the first place photo was real, the girl’s hair would be flowing in the wind. Not being pulled down by gravity
