Wedding Preparedness

May 29th, 2009 No comments

After feasting on the wonderful rehearsal-dinner food at the Latin King (odd name for an Italian restaurant), it’s time to go over the equipment for the big wedding day tomorrow one last time.  Two of everything?  Check!  Back off, Murphy!

~14 hours of coverage, wish us luck ;)

First Somewhat Official Wedding

May 9th, 2009 No comments

OK, I’m not gona lie.  Weddings are a new gig for me, and I have a few lined up this summer, including one the end of this month.  I’ve shot informally at weddings before, and attened enough to know the general drill, but really wanted some hard-core hands-on experience before I set loose on my own.

I contacted the great photographer at K.E.Y. Photography (he’s actually the photographer who shot our wedding, 7 years ago) to see if he had any upcoming weddings I could play second-shooter on, and quickly learn the ropes.  Well, he obliged, and that wedding was this afternoon up in exciting Fort Dodge. Scottish wedding… men in kilts, oh my!

Overall it was a great experience.  I’m glad I took the time to play second fiddle, and it confirmed that I’m ready to handle it on my own, capturing those fleating memories on one of the most important days of your life.

Here’s just a few memories from the day.

Trigger Me Not

May 5th, 2009 3 comments

I’ve been holding my breath for months, waiting for the release of the RadioPopper JrX flash triggers, tearfully watching them push the release date back further and further.  The latest update on their blog specified a mid March release, which has far come and gone. Contacting them directly always yields a response that they’re releasing on a date in a couple weeks, which gets pushed back another week when they’re contacted by somebody else 20 seconds later.

They’re seriously losing out on a huge market share with these delays and failure to keep the general public updated.  They can’t compete without a shipping product, and they’re losing respect as a company by portraying such incompetency and poor customer service.

With wedding season coming up, it was time to come up for air, and I had no choice but to purchase the Alien Bee CyberSyncs today instead.  I know they’re also an awesome product (I love the AB800 lights I already have from them) and know I’ll be thrilled.  The supposed specs on the poppers had just seemed a tad more enticing, and the price tag a hair cheaper.

Anywhoo, now I wait on delivery of my 4 CSRB+’s (receivers) and CST (transmitter) :)

OohOohablog!

As if I really need another site to keep up-to-date, so we’ll see how well handling another blog goes.  Hopefully you’re already familiar with my 365/366 photo-a-day blog that I’ve been posting a new photo to daily for a year and a half now.

My intentions are for just another boring photography blog that nobody subscribes to…er, I mean, they’re to have this blog focus more on the fun side of the business side of my photographic life, and the adventures along the way.

So… In case of emergency, the exits are here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here anywhere! Keep your hands and arms inside the carpet! We’re outta here!
