Trigger Me Not
I’ve been holding my breath for months, waiting for the release of the RadioPopper JrX flash triggers, tearfully watching them push the release date back further and further. The latest update on their blog specified a mid March release, which has far come and gone. Contacting them directly always yields a response that they’re releasing on a date in a couple weeks, which gets pushed back another week when they’re contacted by somebody else 20 seconds later.
They’re seriously losing out on a huge market share with these delays and failure to keep the general public updated. They can’t compete without a shipping product, and they’re losing respect as a company by portraying such incompetency and poor customer service.
With wedding season coming up, it was time to come up for air, and I had no choice but to purchase the Alien Bee CyberSyncs today instead. I know they’re also an awesome product (I love the AB800 lights I already have from them) and know I’ll be thrilled. The supposed specs on the poppers had just seemed a tad more enticing, and the price tag a hair cheaper.
Anywhoo, now I wait on delivery of my 4 CSRB+’s (receivers) and CST (transmitter) 
How have the CyberSync’s worked out for ya? I have a set and they generally work quite well. My only complaint is that the receiver ‘time out’ on me and I have to wake it by hitting the test button occasionally.
Thanks for the comment, Nathan. Overall, the CyberSync’s have worked out great for me. The reliability has been excellent, but I hear ya about the 1-hour timeout if they haven’t been triggered. An actual on/off switch would be nice.
The CSRB’s have survived several falls atop lightstands, etc, and even a dunk in the lake. I have had to re-solder the output connector to the circuit board on a couple, of the units, though. And I’ve broken the foot off of a couple of the CST’s (due to my own stupidity), which unfortunately, there is no repair for. So, I now actually own 4 CST’s, two good, two with broken feet. The units still work, they just can’t be hotshoe mounted.
I just wish the Cybers supported some of the high speed and hypersync stuff that the new pocket wizards do. But, that’s not really something I can really hold against them.
BTW, I’ve used these extensively in sports arena situations for triggering strobes in the catwalk, as well as remote cameras. Never have had issues with interference or misfires from 150+’, whereas I’ve had issues with pocket wizards in the same arena.
