Canon 1D X… Cracked Wide Open

September 17th, 2012

I found out the hard way that the 1D X’s magnesium alloy shell is far from bulletproof after a tumble off a golf cart onto concrete left me with a crack in the armor. Cam still performed flawlessly, but so much for the weather sealing (and the attached 24-70). That’s the one downfall of the Spider Holster I use; no camera straps.

After a short two-day visit to Canon’s New Jersey repair facility, the body transplant was complete.  Canon was kind enough to return the damaged parts, for your viewing pleasure.

Hey, I’m having the same fun with my tablet. Those ribbons SUCK when they are detached.

hello I have a question for you:
I broke the lens mount of the 1dx. know whether to remove the entire front or just with the 4 screws holding it is enough to change it. thank you!

Sorry to hear about your 1DX. Unfortunately, there is a lip around the outside of the bayonet ring, so the removal of the body case is necessary to replace the mount. Hopefully there is no further damage to the mirror box.
